EDIT: I spent a lot of time revising this piece these past two weeks, making the designs more visually appealing as well as refining the overall painting. Please take another look at this artwork and leave a critique if you're so inclined :)

A million years and one broken tablet later, I bring you my children: fierce, sassy, and ready to bash some skulls.

Time: 70+ hours
Used: Wacom Intuos5 (may your soul rest in tablet heaven, Graphire Wireless), Photoshop CS2

I true like both they have their strong points ,like the eyes draw you into what might the characters are thinking as they gaze back at you.The picture on the rightside, with the man having his head cocked a certian way like he was listening to a conversation or even movement of the lady..it has a rigthtness in the effect of something that is about to happen .
The other side seems a little more relaxed , just abit but they are still poised to move if anything happens...
all in all a great paint(s)...well done.

Her outfit does not look like it belongs to eachother, thus not aesthetic as opposed to the male character there. But she has a better weapon, it appears that the man must carry the heavy axe all the time rather than have it sheated.

Thanks for elaborating! Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. Her outfit was a synthesis of Ancient Greek armor and Ancient Greek casual attire, but it was an experiment and perhaps not a successful one depending on the viewer. I'm sure I'll end up revising this again and revisit her design as well as think up a scabbard for his axe. Thank you for the critique, I appreciate it!

So looking at the detailing, as opposed to a mobile device it looks really good I just think you need more detail on the background and def sharpen or use a solid brush to bring out the folds in the clothing, unless you trying for a softer style. I do think you need to push the landscape behind them far more. Great work keep it going.

Hey, thank you for taking the time to give it another look! I'm definitely going to revisit the background and push the lighting/details there. I was trying to use the edges to help distinguish between soft and coarse materials but others have mentioned that I should be using that aspect to differentiate foreground and background/important details and insignificant details. I guess I'll have to think on that a bit more.

Thank you again for your advice, I greatly appreciate it :)

No problem you have some great work, looking at the dress at the femail I see the details on her armor below the fabric very nice touch. What software do use, I am currently working with sketchbook pro 6 and adobe photoshop cs6, I was thinking of moving into painter. I dont have much up on my end just some old stuff dont really want to post the new stuff until I get my site up live in 2 weeks, my work has greatly improved since. I def would love your input when I am up and running :). Best of luck to you and your work :)

Thank you!

I use Photoshop CS2. I've never used Painter before so I can't really speak much on that, but even an old version of Photoshop like CS2 works just fine for me. :)
Yeah, send me a link when your website goes live! I'd be happy to offer some feedback.

Good luck to you too!

Someone commented that there were some problems with perspective and proportion? I really can't see any fundamental issues with those things in this picture. I think any issues with this picture are matters of polish or rendering, or subtle dynamism of shape. But it's structurally very sound- which is an achievement.

Great concept by the way! Very charismatic.

Wow this is awesome, and it's interesting to know that this took you a long time. I've been fretting about how much time it takes for good digital artists to finish something so i could figure out if i was actually talented or not. But this is amazing ^^ and I'm glad it took you a long time, but..sorry about your broken tablet XD I'd die without mine

Thank you! haha yes, not all digital artists are quick to produce quality work, but some of them are, and that really just comes with years of experience. I'm by no means an expert, but I like to include the time I took because I think it's helpful for beginners to see that speed doesn't necessarily mean better art. Don't worry about the time it takes you this early in the game. You have years ahead of you to build that sort of economy of brushstroke :)

And it's okay! It just gave me an excuse to replace it with a better one

I get the feeling that the woman is much more fiery than her male companion. This image gives us so many interpretations of these characters besides this though. Where did her whiplashes come from on her back? This is just amazing times ten! I could talk about this image all day. It brings rise to such an epic story.

haha yes, I suppose you could say that ;) Although her temper is much better kept than his (he is the phoenix, after all). Her scars are a result of abuse she endured as a child.

Thank you so much! :thanks: I love getting comments like these! Let's me know I'm doing my job right. :)

You are DEFINITELY doing your job right. :) Your art is amazing in all directions! And I'm looking forward to more. This piece just stood out to me the most. Can't really say why--it just did. Is there a crtain history behind it? Is it a fanfic of some kind?

Ah, you are the first person I've come across who both paints and writes. :) I do both. I've never painted anything from my novel, though I plan to make it happen soon! Your art work is amazing, so I'll be checking in to your writings. I think I found you because you had favorites my excerpt from my own novel, is that right?

Haha, I'm just really excited that I've met someone with similar hobbies! My novel is set in a foreign and medieval-like land. (It seems as your is as well.) I'm interested to compare. :) Is it okay if I give it a little critique for advice? (I generally ask before doing so, because I know some people are sensitive. I'm not harsh by no means. Just very detailed in the few areas I know well. I generally discuss the negatives with suggestions for improvement, BUT I also adress the positives. I don't like people losing what makes their writing appealing in the first place.)

Anyways, entirely up to you. :) I'll check it out regardless. Just note me a link.
